Andorra has a strong background in mathematical modeling of processes and systems that include physical optics and systems level engineering.
For detectors, signal-to-noise ratio is one of the most important parameters. We have modeled S/N for photodiodes and APD’s and determined the probability of detection for star scanners. A particular specialty is diffraction grating design using the principles of Fourier optics. Diffraction gratings have been designed for use in optical disk recorders, laser markers, and IR image processing systems.
We have modeled the readout characteristics of membrane mirror spatial light modulators and determined how to fabricate them for optimum operation. Other applications include gaussian beam propagation for laser systems and polarization analysis.
